Tourism Manager

Department: Groups
Reports to: VP Groups
Date: 2/11/2025

Responsibilities and Tasks:

  • Oversee the coordination and schedule operations.
  • Ensure consistency in department proposals and correspondence.
  • Review employees’ ticketing and sales activities to ensure cost calculations are correct.
  • Hold staff meetings with the group’s department staff, brief and debrief tour managers for incoming groups.
  • Prepare and present quotes based on requests received from travel agencies for over-the- road bus tours; group city packages; special events; convention tours and technical/specialty tours.
  • Ensure all hotels and services are booked and final confirmation to the clients is sent out.
  • Research local vendors, such as hotels, bus companies and restaurants, to negotiate prices and suggest best ideas for clients.
  • Approve and sign contracts together with Vice President, if necessary, renegotiate better rates or terms.
  • Monitor accounts payable and receivable to insure proper and timely payments from clients and vendors.
  • Provide superior customer service to key accounts and assist with the operation of the various events planned and assist with any inquiries they may have.
  • Coordinate with other NWT offices when quotes and confirmed tours overlap into other regions.
  • Coordinate tour guide briefings by providing information, itinerary, rooming list to assist the guide in helping make the tour run smoothly

Requirements:

  • Bachelor's degree or foreign degree equivalent in Tourism Management, Hospitality, Business or related field plus two (2) years of experience as Travel Specialist, Sales Specialist or related occupation including:
    • Customer management
    • Researching travel services including flights, transfers, accommodation and leisure activities to create a complete travel package
    • Coordinating with airlines and international service providers
    • Planning customer travel and analyzing travel itineraries, ticketing and booking functions
  • In lieu of a bachelor’s degree, an employer will accept an additional two (2) years of experience as a Travel Specialist, Sales Specialist or related occupation (total 4 years of experience)


Salary:
$70,000 /year
